Learning Center

San Pasqual High School Learning Center

Welcome!

Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to a totally new approach to graduating from high school! Some of you were here last year and are well on your way to accomplishing your goals. Some are new to the program and are preparing to join our little LC family. Bridgit Wallace is our fearless leader. As center coordinator she teaches her own students, and manages the communication between the center and the school site. Judi Laguna is our Office Assistant.  She'll help you find forms, resources, and your teacher. Lourdes Lopez is the center's Bilingual Computer Assistant. Please call her for assistance in Spanish. The center has two teachers as well. Lynn Franco-Chow specializes in English while Jennifer Nichols specializes in Mathematics. Students in the Credit Recovery program will have either Mrs. Chow, or Mrs. Nichols as their teacher. Please feel free to contact your teacher directly if your student will be absent or if you need anything.

Expectations for 2011-2012
·        Students will attend the center for their two-hour block daily. They will be on-time or receive detention. Students will complete at least 4 more hours of work at home. Extended hours at the center are no longer available.
·        Students work on one course at a time. To finish the traditional 6 courses per semester each course must be finished in 3 weeks
·        Students must turn in weekly assignments at their appointment time. These are set at the beginning of the year and cannot be changed. If a student must miss an appointment a parent must call to reschedule before the absence. Missed appointments and incomplete assignments will lead toward disciplinary action, and/or being dropped from the program.
·        Students will use a time card daily to mark their arrival and departure from the center. Parents may call for a copy of these records.
·        Cell phones and MP3 players are NOT allowed in the Learning Center. If confiscated, parents must pick them up.
·        Food and drink are NOT allowed at all in the center.
·        Students should review their workstation at the beginning of their appointment so they are not held responsible for any damages caused by someone else.

Due Process
Once a student “misses” three of their weekly appointments the First Notification Letter of non-compliance is sent home. An incomplete assignment is also considered a “missed” appointment. The Second and Final Notification Letters may be sent after the next missed appointments. Mrs. Wallace, the teacher, and parents will meet after the second letter is sent. The Final Notification Letter indicates that the student will be transferred to a more appropriate placement (typically Valley High School).
It is incredibly important to be present at all appointments with the entire assignment complete. If you must miss an appointment, a parent must call before you miss the appointment to re-schedule. The rules are tough because students are already behind...and we REALLY want you to graduate!
